As a YFU Volunteer you will make an impact in your community and the world! Learn about other peoples and cultures around the world by interacting with teenagers, local families, and schools!
YFU volunteers support students, families, programs, and other volunteers in a wide variety of ways. As a YFU volunteer you choose from a number of opportunities to suit your interests, needs, and schedule. YFU offers the choice of short-term, long-term, and episodic volunteer positions. The hours and locations are flexible, and you can volunteer for some tasks without ever leaving your home!YFU offers a variety of opportunities, including:
- Mentoring students, families and schools
- Encouraging potential American students to study abroad and families to host international students
- Interviewing prospective students and host families
- Planning and conducting orientations for students and families
- Sharing information about YFU programs within your community
- Virtual volunteering opportunities
- Performing administrative tasks

Youth For Understanding (YFU) prepares young people for their responsibilities and opportunities in a changing, interdependent world.
Description
Through YFU student exchange programs, young people from around the world live with a host family in another crountry, immerse themselves in the local culture, and build friendships that bring crountries together. As these young people discover new worlds and make lasting friendships, they not only learn about another culture and a new language, they also gain perspective on the world and develop a stronger sense of self.
With 60 years of success in international student exchange, YFU has built a reputation for maintaining the highest quality programs in the field--just ask one of the 250,000 YFU alumni around the world.
YFU is a volunteer based organization with one of the largest international exchange scholarship programs in the world. Each year, more than 4,500 students and families participate in programs around the world, with YFU USA receiving more than 2,000 international students and sending over 500 American students abroad.
