Hospice of Washington County is seeking reliable, compassionate volunteers to provide emotional support and companionship to terminally ill patients and thier families during the overnight hours. Specifically, we are looking to fill the following 2 shifts: 11pm-3am and 3-7am.
Visits with patients/families may include active listening, holding a hand, or just providing a quiet presence.
It's important for our volunteers to be caring, dependable, emotionally mature, and comfortable just being with those at the end of their lives.
Hospice training is provided- we will teach you all you need to know about the hospice approach to death and dying, and how to put these ideas into practice.

Description
Hospice of Washington County, Inc was established in 1980 for the sole purpose of lending support to those facing a terminal illness and their families. A core of caring citizens of Washington County, Maryland gathered to see how they could offer their time and talents to help share the burden of a serious illness for their neighbors. Over the past thirty years, Hospice of Washington County developed into a full service hospice with two doctors, registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, professional social workers and spiritual care providers in addition to our many dedicated volunteers.
As the exclusive licensed provider of hospice care in Washington County, Maryland, our goal is to surround the patient and their family with a personal team of professionals who know how to manage even the most difficult situations. We are accredited by the Joint Commission and are a member in good standing of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). We currently serve over 200 Washington County residents who live at home with family, in nursing homes, assisted living facilities or group homes.
Hospice is a philosophy of care that is about managing the pain and symptoms of a life-limiting illness so the patient can live out the time left to the fullest extent possible. Hospice is not about giving up, it is about quality. Services are provided, referrals are made, and employment actions are made without regard to race, sex, color, national origin, ancestry, religious creed, handicap, or age.
