Service Project Saturday, May 14th, 2016:

We need volunteers! Join us Saturday, May 14th (10 AM - 2 PM) to help sort and stuff care boxes for the children of Machao. This is our day to bring awareness to the health, education, and hygiene needs of the children of Machao, and to change the road ahead for all of our 43 orphaned children.

MACHAO truly believes that ensuring the children are clean and healthy is the most important impact we can make. Practicing good oral and overall hygiene is vital to preventing the spread of illness, while also being pivotal for developing a strong self-image. Basic hygiene goods don’t cost a lot, but they really give the children a sense of dignity. As such, we are heavily invested in making sure that our children have access to the hygiene items they need.

Throughout each year, our foundation collects in-kind donations from community donors, corporate sponsors, and volunteers in preparation for our annual Service Trip to the Machao Orphanage in Kenya.

We need your volunteer support assembling and decorating 100 care boxes and packing them with hygiene items such as washcloths, soap, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants. The 100 care boxes will be given to the children of Machao on our annual Service Trip to Makueni, Kenya in July.

We are seeking volunteers who can attend the full shift. Food will be provided. Your donations of hygiene items are also welcome!

If you are interested in learning more about our service trip in July, please email info@machaoorphanage.org or go HERE if you would like to learn more or sign up online! The next informational meeting is scheduled for: Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 4 - 6 pm in Burbank, CA.

Donations:

For those who would like to help but are unable to attend on May 14th, we are still looking for donated hygiene items such as deodorant, toothpaste, lotion, and sanitary napkins. Consider starting a collection drive at your school or office, or enlist a local business to donate what they can - including food and water for the May 14th volunteers!

Mission Statement

"MACHAO" is an acronym for MAkueni Christian Home for Assisting Orphans. The mission of MACHAO is to assist the destitute children, whose parents have been victims of death, namely HIV/AIDs. MACHAO focuses on providing these orphans with basic requirements such as: food, shelter, clothing and schooling facilities. The future vision of MACHAO is to expand the home facilities to cater to the increasing number of orphans and impoverished children. The group was formed in 1996 by seven Christians of the Africa Inland Church within Wote Division in Makueni District. MACHAO is a non-profit organization both in Kenya and in the U.S.A. and appeals to well wishers to support the program.

Description

In July 2005, Dr. Carolyn Rowley was introduced to the orphanage via Greater Heights Baptist Church located in Los Angeles, California. Greater Heights Baptist Church supports the missionary efforts of Joseph Mutunga and his family. Dr. Mutunga is one of the seven initial supporters of MACHAO. After Dr. Rowley's first trip to the orphanage, an assessment was made as to the children's need. In March 2007, Dr. Rowley formed the Machao Orphanage Foundation (a non profit organization) dedicated to supporting the efforts of the seven supporters, and the needs of the orphaned and impoverished children. The Machao Orphanage Foundation is a non profit organization in both Kenya and the U.S.A. Funding will support: The construction, building and furnishing costs for the new facility which will house 80 children in the impoverished region of Makueni, Kenya. Utilities (i.e., firewood, charcoal, paraffin). A child's education. The children in the orphanage are required to attend school. Participating in our 'Love-a-Child' program will support the purchase of a child's uniform, tuition, fees, books, and school supplies. Toiletries, clothing and medical supplies. Personnel. Currently, MACHAO has one house mother (matron) and a watchman. As the number of children grow, the orphanage will need at least one more matron and another watchman. Construction of a water system. Today, the Machao Orphanage Foundation continues to raise awareness and money for the new orphan facility and educational support.
