About The Generous Garden Project

Location:

161 Verdin Road, Greenville, SC 29607, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to help fight hunger by growing, harvesting and coordinating fresh fruits and vegetables around the Greenville, South Carolina area. We provide lovingly grown, locally grown fresh produce to local food banks, shelters and ministries.

Description

For most, hunger is a mild, temporary feeling that comes between meals. But for some it's a struggle for survival and health.

The particular people we’re most concerned about aren’t in a distant land, but right here living among us. We all know 'about’ them. While a number of charitable organizations work to provide food - which is amazing in itself - little of what is provided can replace the nutrition of fresh produce. In fact, there is nothing on earth that can completely replace fresh fruits and vegetables.

That’s where we come in. We are working to fight hunger in a slightly different way by growing and harvesting fresh produce and then giving it away to local ministries and Food Banks. The collective effort is called: The Generous Garden Project.

It is a known fact that if people get fresh fruits and veggies in their diet, they think more clearly, have more energy and live more fruitful lives. We are here to fight hunger one garden at a time.

We accomplish this goal in a couple of ways:

G R O W & H A R V E S T

We plant and harvest vegetables on our 2.5 acre garden in Simpsonville S.C.

G L E A N

Gleaning is a practice of gathering crops that would otherwise be left in the fields to rot, or plowed under after a harvest. When a farmer calls with available produce to glean, we organize volunteers and go to the fields for a gleaning event.

T E A C H

Eventually, our goal is not just to provide fresh produce, but teach others how to grow their own too.
