10th Annual Bone & Joint Expo

presented by the Arthritis Foundation (AF) Northern California Chapter

A one-stop-shop for people living with arthritis and related diseases and their family members and care-givers. The Bone & Joint EXPO offers educational seminars, arthritis-safe exercise demonstrations, peer net-working sessions, health screenings, products, and services aimed at improving quality of life and enabling better self-management of America’s number one cause of physical disability.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
  • Chair & Co-Chair: Work directly with AF Staff to ensure that EXPO meets its educational and financial goals. Activities: Build and implement the overall event strategy and meet regularly with committee members to ensure/track progress.
  • Marketing/PR Chair & Committee: Ensure that EXPO receives maximum visibility in local area and to target audience throughout the Chapter’s service area. Activities:Develop press releases and pitch stories to the media; coordinate interviews with radio, TV, and print publications; coordinate event day media, emcee scripting and message points; and assist with brochure distribution and placement, etc.
    • Online/Social Media Lead: Ensure that the EXPO receives maximum online visibility. Activities: Increases online presence utilizing social media, blogs, online calendars, etc.
    • Canvasser: Ensure that EXPO flyers are distributed throughout the Greater Bay Area. Activities: Distribute flyers to various large and small businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
  • Logistics Chair & Committee: Plan and implement all day of event logistics. Activities: Ensure all event day logistics are planned, coordinated, and efficiently run; recruit and train Day of Event Volunteers; work closely with hotel; oversee event set-up/tear-down including placement of event registration area, staging, refreshments, sponsors booths, rentals, etc.
  • Sponsorship Chair & Committee: Solicit financial and in-kind sponsorships to underwrite expenses and generate event revenue. Activities: Identify potential event sponsors and exhibitors (corporate and nonprofit partners); and present sponsorship information; secure financial commitment (cash or in-kind donations to help decrease event expenses).

The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. Established in 1948, AF is a volunteer-driven, national nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for over 120 types of arthritis including: rheumatoid arthritis; juvenile arthritis; osteoporosis; lupus; osteoarthritis; gout; back pain; psoriatic arthritis ankylosing spondylitis; fibromylagia; tendonitis/bursitis; scleroderma; and carpal tunnel syndrome. Description

The Arthritis Foundation Northern California Office:

  • partners with community organizations to provide people with arthritis access to evidence-based physical activity programs (aquatic exercise, land-based exercise, tai chi & walking)
  • offers free educational seminars & patient education brochures
  • provides support and activities for children with Juvenile Arthritis & their families
  • referrals to local rheumatologists, support groups
  • funds arthritis research both locally and nationally
  • provides physicians with continuing medical education in the form of the annual Knowles Lecture
  • offers the Summer Science Intership Program which provides top-notch HS juniors and seniors & college frosh & sophomores the ability to work in arthritis research at UCSF & Stanford.
