Mission Statement

Solita’s House Inc., a HUD-approved, nonprofit, housing counseling organization, founded in 2006, was created to address the need for homeowner counseling and classes for low- to moderate-income families. Since its inception, Solita’s House has provided assistance to residents of Tampa, Hillsborough County and surrounding areas who share a dream of home ownership and financial success.

Description

We're a small but mighty organizaition. We offer Homebuyer Education on a monthly basis. This is a 16 hour workshop which shows clients the process of homebuying and explains down payment assitance programs. After a client attends this 16 hour workshop we encourage them to enroll in one on one pre-purchase homebuyer counseling. In these sessions the housing counselor will assess a client readiness to purchase. The housing counselors job is to keep the client engaged, remove barriers, encourage the wise use of credit, act as an accountability partner and foster financial growth. We work with our clients for as long as they need. We also have other programs such as Learn it, Practice it, Grow it (LPG) this is a financial literacy program that encourages increased credit scores and savings. With this program we will match up to $1000 of clients savings after a 12 month period. Solita's House Inc also has a summer program called Financial Intelligent Teens (FIT). With this program we get together teens ages 13-17 and educate them on the 4 c's of banking Capital, Capacity, Credit and Cost of credit. The participants are with us for a full week of intense workshops, projects and financial excursions. During the week participants earn "Solita's Bucks" which they use at the end of the week to shop at the "Solita's House Mall". Lastly if the participants joins an assigned group in conducting presentations to other teens they will earn $200 real cash.
