ACC "Pantry of Plenty" food distribution program
Community members coming together to join in the fight against hunger in Metro Detroit.

Twice per month, the ACC distributes nearly 30,000 pounds of food to area residents in need. Items include fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, meat and juices. Each family receives approximately 60 pounds of prepared and perishable foods per event. The food distribution is open to all in need with low or moderate income.

Volunteers are needed to help set up and distribute the food items. Events are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 9am - 11:30am.

The "Pantry of Plenty" program runs entirely on in-kind donations. The ACC relies on the support of the community and corporate volunteers.

Description

Throughout the 20th Century and continuing today, the Detroit area has attracted a steady stream of immigrants from the Middle East who today estimate near 500,000. In 1979, acutely aware of the fact that these newly arrived immigrants needed assistance in order to adapt to life in the United States, a group of visionary community members founded the Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC).

ACC opened its one person office, housed within the International Institute in Detroit, and served 421 clients during its first year of operation. Over 33 years later ACC provides over 530,000 services annually to those in need through its 40 outreach offices.

The mission of ACC is to support the overall wellbeing of the community. Programs deliver various educational, employment and training, behavioral health, youth recreation and self-enrichment services, cultural activities and health services.

ACC is committed to "Making a Difference" in the lives of those it serves and is proud to serve the growing multiethnic community of Metropolitan Detroit.
