Naper Settlement is a family-friendly outdoor history museum featuring 12 acres of learning and interactive opportunities for all ages. Volunteers play an essential role in inspiring and engaging thousands of visitors from all over the world. Volunteers founded the Naperville Heritage Society in 1969 and they remain the core of the Society’s mission. We welcome dynamic, lifelong learners who want to be a part of Naper Settlement’s volunteer corps.

The Summer Building Interpreter is an opportunity for people 18 years and older who are interested in museum education, theater, or interpretive programming. Interpreters lead visitors through museum buildings and grounds and provide an exciting and engaging experience that stimulates conversation and promotes an appreciation of 19th century history. This volunteer opportunity could also be applied to community service or internship credit hours if approved by your school. You will have the option of wearing period dress while leading your tours!

Summer Interpreter volunteers attend a consolidated, but intensive training on Saturday, January 28 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. Attendance is required. Interpreters must work four 3½-hour shifts (with at least two weekend shifts) per month between June and August. The museum's summer hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday from 1 PM to 4 PM.
