English as a Second Language (ESL) classes through the Centers for Families and Children’s workforce development program, El Barrio, engage students in learning for a purpose. As part of a larger job readiness program, ESL at El Barrio attracts students and teachers who are highly motivated and ready to succeed. By joining our team you will not only be helping adult English language learners gain the skills they need to excel in their English abilities, but also help prepare them to enter or move up in the workforce and better support themselves and their families.
Volunteers will help prepare lesson plans, assist teachers, and engage students. Each session is 10 weeks and classes are from 6:30-9:00 pm on Monday and Wendesday evenings at our west side location at 5209 Detroit ave. Many teachers' assistants come only one day a week. Teaching or foreign language experience is preferred but not required.
