PACT Humane Society

The Cat Overpopulation Resource Effort (CORE) Program is PACT Humane Society's feral cat program. The purpose of the CORE Program is to teach the public to do TNR - Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return - for feral (undomesticated or wild) cats. TNR is the only humane, non-lethal solution to the massive overpopulation of cats which results in heartbreaking numbers of cats euthanized each year.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • respond to telephone calls from the public requesting help with stray or feral cats, explain the TNR process, guide callers through the TNR process
  • educate the public about TNR
  • assist the elderly and those with large feral colonies with trapping
  • provide guidance to those who have found feral kittens
  • actively seek to change local ordinances in favor of TNR

PACT provides training and all program materials.

Mission Statement

People & Animals in Community Together Humane Society (PACT) is committed to improving animal welfare by:

1) Finding new, loving, and permanent homes for stray, abandoned, and given-up cats and dogs.

2) Creating and promoting activities and resources that prevent animal abuse, neglect, or mistreatment.

3) Developing and administering programs that enable current pet owners to retain their pets when difficult situations arise such as life changes, financial difficulties, physical debilitation, or age limitations.

4) Educating and serving the community through our outreach programs on animal welfare issues including social responsibility, pet over-population, respect for animals, and proper animal care, treatment and training.

Description

People and Animals in Community Together Humane Society (PACT) is a no-kill, not-for-profit, and all volunteer animal shelter and educational organization. We were established in April of 2000 in Downers Grove, Illinois.

PACT Humane Society is staffed by volunteers who serve in many different capacities including daily animal care providers (cleaning and socialization), adoption counselors, management team members, program coordinators, and advisers. We operate out of Bloomingdale, IL with a satellite adoption center in Skokie, IL.

To date we have adopted out over 5,000 cats and dogs in our 12 year history.

We are no-kill, only euthanizing animals in advanced stages of cancer or liver disease, or an untreatable illness, where there is no quality of life or hope of recovery.

We have rescued thousands of animals from animal control facilities where they would have been euthanized within a matter of days.

We rescue older animals and "less-than-perfect" ones, such as dogs with heartworm, and cats with FIV or diabetes, cats missing tails, eyes or legs.
