McHenry County Music Center (Crystal Lake) is looking for volunteers to serve on our board who are enthusiastic fundraisers, believe in our mission to open music up to any child who wants to study and play music, active (doers not just sitters) and like being around like minded families.
We draw students from adjacent counties (Lake, Cook, Kane, Walworth WI) in addition to McHenry County.
When
The board meets monthly (1st Thursday every month at 5:30 p.m.), but the date and time can be changed if this does not work out for new members. Committee members (Community Relations, Marketing, and Donor Development) meet separately at an agreed-upon day/time.
Who
Young to seasoned professionals and/or those who share a passion for what we do. Required skills: Passion and purpose, a "doer," prior NFP board experience not necessary, but definitely a plus. Other requirements: $1000 annual donation OR equivalent (in concert ad sales, solicited donations from other sources, or a combination including a personal donation for a total of $1000 annually); ensemble concert attendance; and committee participation.

Mission Statement
To offer exceptional music education and performance opportunities to youth and adults regardless of their financial status, and to enrich and improve the cultural lives of our communities.
Description
McHenry County Music Center focuses on orchestral music opportunities for the youth of McHenry County and surrounding counties in northwest Illinois. A number of high schools in the area do not offer string programs. It maintains a center of private instruction, the Academy, which also welcomes adult students, and supports three youth orchestra ensembles for students of increasing skill levels: Prelude, Intermezzo, and Symphony. No student is turned away for inability to pay - scholarships are available based on need. New programs in development include the Sage String Program for younger beginning string players, based on the Venezuelan "El Sistema" program, in which all students receive scholarships and reduced-size instruments.
The organization is 28 years old. Its youth orchestras received the 2011 "Illinois Youth Orchestra of the Year" award from the Illinois Council of Orchestras.
