Help us further our goals of Experiential Education! Youth Programs & Education Director Working on the Fair & Festival committee, this position is a cross between a School System Liaison, Educational subject matter expert, and coordinator between the the Fair’s different youth programs, to include, (but not limited to):

  • Integration of focus area’s from the Fair, into the various corresponding areas within the Stafford County School System, at the various levels of education
  • College Recruitment/info booths -yet another service we provide to Stafford County and the Region, college booths inform adults as well as teens of the opportunities available to them
  • Trailblazer - one of the original interactive youth educational programs of the Festival (should have a coordinator just for this program working under the Ed Director, and with the Events Director)
  • Agricultural Safety Day - Focusing on safety programs, some agriculturally oriented, some general safety oriented. (should have a coordinator just for this program working under the Ed Director, and with the Ag Area Director)
  • Badge Day - a youth program for Boy, Girl, and Cub Scouts. Subject Matter Experts are asked to conduct training that completes (or gets to a 70% degree of completion) the requirements for a Merit Badge. (should have a coordinator just for this program working under the Ed Director, and with the events Director)

In working with the School System the Ed Director will Explain value of programs to the county/region youth, to include

  • SOL enhancement
  • Provide look for and create opportunities to partner with the County/Regions school systems to provide synergistic opportunities, resulting in value added to the educational efforts of both organizations
  • work with school board members to keep the Fair relevant to the needs of the county/region

The director meets with the coordinators, keeping up with their operations, facilitating the best sharing of resources within the fair/festival, and is empowered to recruit willing individuals to serve as coordinators for various areas within their directorate.

Who are we looking for? It could be someone from Stafford’s Educational system, or from another external system, but someone who is able to speak 'their’ language, understand 'their’ motivations, and how to articulate to 'them’ that our goals are to help them meet their goals, and how we can do this. (Them being the Stafford County School System/schools/teachers). An outgoing, personable, self-starter who is looking for a way to help out the community, and probably understands better than WE do, how the events that we offer, tie in to the SOL’s that the state requires our teachers teach towards.

Mission Statement

The Stafford County Agricultural Fair & Hartwood Days Festival Committee ("the Committee") exists to support and affirm the following charitable purposes:

  1. the education of youth primarily through those means which are used in Scouting, targeted experiential and educational activities (Agricultural Competitions, Trailblazer Program, etc.), and peripherally through other businesses and organizations acting as subject matter experts and

  2. the strengthening of ties within the community, between the people of the community, and those organizations which serve it.

Central to the youth educational mission of the committee is the fostering of creative potential and a love of the outdoors. The focus of the committee will be to provide a quality outdoor Festival, incorporating & combining service organizations of the community, businesses (both For Profit and Not for Profit), and youth organizations and educational opportunities in such a fashion as to provide opportunities for members of the community (of all ages) to attend, learn something, and enjoy themselves.

The committee serves as a reflection of the community, and the values fostered and promoted through scouting. The committee values diversity, and in accordance with committee membership policies, does not discriminate in leadership, admission or access to its programs and activities on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, religion, gender, marital status, handicap/disability, age and/or other non-merit factors. The Committee shall operate without profit, so that no part of its earnings or assets shall ever be distributed as a dividend or inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual.

Description

A 501-C-3 Charity, this completely volunteeer run County Fair experience, incorporates experiential learning with empowering communities by connecting people with the businesses and organizations that provide services for them! Oh yeah....its a FREE event too! But in order to do this, WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

Although the Fair & Festival is always growing and evolving, it currently has an upper and lower event field, with vendors, & exhibitors, Rides, a Living History Area, an Agricultural Area, a First Responders Area, Free concerts to include the Saturday Lineup, a Saturday night Teen Jam, and the Sunday Afternoon Son-Jam, and runs the Trailblazer Adventure program and a Scout Badge Day. The 2013 event will add the Ms. Stafford Pageant.
