ORGANIZATION: SOME - So Others Might Eat

  • 42 people are interested

Come help us deliver bags of food to low income seniors of DC. We will give you a route of 3-6 seniors in close proximity and you will deliver a basket to their home on the third Saturday of every month. Our next delivery date is this Saturday, October 18th!

Bring a friend or a family member- this activity is more fun to do with someone else!

Most volunteers help out monthly although we welcome you to come whenever your schedule permits your attendance on the third Saturday. We can even give you the same route each month if you'd like, so you can bond with your seniors! Normally a route takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the route.

Driving directions are provided and you will need a car to deliver the food.

If you are interested, please feel contact us and we will set up an orientation date for you to attend. The orientation will be for about an hour and then send you on your way to our seniors. Please show up on time- if you come after 9:15 you will miss a lot of the orientation and unfortunately we will not be able to have you deliver that day (however you are able to sign up to deliver in the future). Volunteers are also encouraged to visit with the senior for a short while (if the senior permits) to help alleviate loneliness and isloation.

Thank you for your interest in helping support our poor and isolated seniors!

About SOME - So Others Might Eat

Location:

71 O St. NW, (other programs throughout the DC metro area), Washington, DC 20001, US

Mission Statement

SOME exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. We meet the immediate daily needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and health care. We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness.

Description

SOME has been serving the homeless and poor since 1970. Today, we are the only interfaith organization in the District that offers a comprehensive and holistic approach to caring for the homeless and extremely poor residents of our city. Though best known for serving more than 800 meals every day of the week, we provide programs that meet a full spectrum of needs that restore hope and dignity to the men, women, and children who come to our doors.

SOME's integrated service model allows poor and homeless individuals in our community to move forward on a path out of homelessness and poverty.
