Our hope is that no one dies alone. The purpose of the Compassionate Care Team is to provide vigil support to hospice patients during their final hours. The emphasis is on providing comfort during the dying process. Team members offer a supportive presence to those who are dying without family or loved ones available. Or, volunteers may be asked to support family members who either need a break from the bedside of their loved one or the emotional support of a caring person. These volunteers work side-by-side with hospice professionals in providing care and comfort when it is needed most.
Vigil Volunteer Support is requested on an as-needed basis (with respect to the volunteer's schedule and location). While we do our best to accommodate vigil requests any time of the day, there is a great need for volunteers overnight between the hours of 10pm - 8am. Volunteers typically sit vigil in shifts of 2-4 hours per visit.
Being part of the Compassionate Care Team requires maturity, professionalism, sound judgment, effective communication skills and compassion.

Mission Statement
Care, Comfort & Compassion for the Whole Family We believe everyone deserves to live in comfort and dignity throughout their lives. Hospice care helps ensure that those with a life-limiting illness live each day to its fullest; we do that by tending to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. All of us at Hospice Advantage believe strongly in our mission of helping patients and their families during this time.
Description
We're committed to providing the highest quality care that our patients and their families deserve.
In becoming a hospice volunteer, you will embark on an exciting adventure which will not only improve the lives of others but uplift your spirit as well.
"Volunteers embody all that is best about hospice. When hope seems lost, volunteers are found at the bedside asking for nothing but the opportunity to give. When all the news seems to be bad, volunteers deliver a warm message of universal friendship and community. When all the power and promise of our high-tech society and healthcare system yield as they must to human mortality, volunteers remind us of the mystical and eternal value of human connectedness. Without volunteers, hospice as we know it ... and as we want it to be ... ceases to exist." - Rod Hildebrant, Owner & President of Hospice Advantage
