Heifer International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger. Residential Volunteer opportunities in MA or AR are available for 3 months to 1 year --working on a farm and educating the public. Volunteers may assist with education programs, animal husbandry, organic gardening, food service, maintenance, gift shop and/or office work. All volunteers help provide experiential education through tours, facilitated programs, day camp sessions, service projects, public events and more. Stipend of $400/month and housing provided.

The mission of Heifer International is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth.

Description

Heifer International is a global non-profit working to end hunger in the world through sustainable agriculture and values-based community development. Heifer has worked with over 20 million families in 122 countries.

There are three Learning Centers in the country (Arkansas and Massachusetts) which are educational working farms where groups come to learn about issues of hunger and poverty and how they can get involved to change the world.

Volunteers are crucial to the sucess of the learning centers. Volunteers work in the organic gardens, take care of the livestock animals, cook meals, faciliate educational programs and lead tours, assist with adminstrative work and help with all other aspects of farm work including landscaping, wood collection and maintenance and repairs.

Volunteers receive housing and a stipend of about $400/month. Two farm vehicles are available for volunteer use. Health insurance is available through the state of Massachusetts. Excess garden produce is often available as well.
