Would you like to walk dogs, socialize cats/kittens/puppies, clean, take photos/videos of our adoptable animals, help with administrative duties, assist at events/info booths, and much more? If so, then volunteer at the SAHS!
A volunteer orientation (dates/times posted monthly at www.SAhumane.org/volunteer) and follow up meeting are mandatory for each individual prior to volunteering. An orientation fee is required (per person), which covers your volunteer T-shirt or apron, badge, and insurance coverage in case of an injury.
Individuals 12-15 years of age are referred to as Junior Volunteers and must have a parent/adult (18 years of age or older) volunteer with them at all times and those 16 years of age and older can volunteer on their own.
We are open every day, except for major holidays, and the volunteer hours are from 8am-7pm.
For more volunteer information and opportunities, please visit www.SAhumane.org/volunteer.

Description
The San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization that has served Bexar County and its surrounding areas since 1952. Every year, the SAHS shelters, medically treats, and rehabilitates approximately 5,000 animals. Many have been injured, abused, surrendered by their owners, or found as strays, and they remain in our care until adopted. Through our adoption, volunteer, foster, and educational programs, we remind the public of the importance of responsible pet ownership, microchipping, and spaying/neutering. As a no-kill organization, the SAHS saves healthy pets, as well as dogs and cats needing medical attention, with euthanasia reserved only for untreatable animals. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and do not receive regular financial support from them. Therefore, donating locally solves a local problem.
