Provide emotional support and companionship to terminally ill patients and their families. Give respite to caregivers. Volunteers are trained on hospice philosophy, conducting patient visits, understanding death and dying, bereavement and grief, and family dynamics. Volunteers meet monthly for educational opportunities. Commitment is generally 2-3 hours per week. Specialized programs include Pet Peace of Mind (assisting with support and caregiving of patient's pets), NODA (No One Dies Alone - sitting with patients who may not have family readily available at time of death), and Veteran to Veteran Volunteering (specialized training is provided to understand unique end of life issues veterans face).
