Are you a veteran and want to help your fellow veterans? Did you know that currently in Brevard County, transportation is one of the biggest needs facing our veterans?
RSVP of Brevard has been awarded federal funding to support the volunteer efforts of a veterans transportation project. Vets Driving Vets is a joint initiative between RSVP of Brevard and Senior TranServe. This is a prime opportunity to join a program that will prove to be extremely beneficial to the lives of local veterans in need of transportation.
Significant cuts in funding to area agencies have resulted in a severe reduction and in some cases, total elimination of community transportation services available for veterans, particularly those who are considered low income or have a non-qualifying disability.
The project models successful veteran programs which partner veterans who wish to serve with veterans in need of services. The project seeks to establish a volunteer corps of veterans who provide coordination of operations and transportation for local veterans who need to travel to the Veterans Administration in Viera and to other providers for medical appointments and essential needs.

Description
Make a Difference in Your Community!
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through sharing centers, meals on wheels, transportation, United Way, and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
