Hospice Hands

Hospice is not a place, but rather a way of caring that brings support and understanding for the patient and family during a final journey.

These comprehensive services of Mercy Health Hospice would not be possible without the contribution of our dedicated Hospice Volunteers.

HOW VOLUNTEERS HELP ...

Our volunteers go into homes to provide the caregiver with a "respite visit" an opportunity to take a breather, to allow them the time they need to do the things that recharge them.

Perhaps it is to visit someone in an assisted living center or nursing home; someone that has very little family or no family at all.

We provide a friendly voice, a hand massage, read books, play cards or we just sit quietly. Providing a sense of being there is sometimes all that is asked.

Hospice Volunteers provide a gift of time and energy that bring needed comfort and rest to Hospice patients and their family members.

Other volunteer opportunities may include: support phone calls, Life Story, Spiritual Care, assist with mailings, record filing, seasonal projects and public awareness.

Mission Statement

We serve together in Trinity Health,

in the spirit of the Gospel,

to heal body, mind and spirit,

to improve the health of our communities

and to steward the resources entrusted to us.

Description

We are a community based Hospice program with the philosophy to focus on the patient rather than the disease.

Every Hospice patient has a team of people behind them:

Nurses, health-aids, social workers, a Medical Director, Spiritual Care, Grief Counselors and Volunteers.

What most people do not realize is that it is a requirement for every Hospice program to provide volunteer support to families to maintain their Hospice accreditation.

We cover Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa and Newaygo Counties.
