Gentiva Hospice volunteers are indispensable members of our hospice are team. We provide exceptional care to our patients and families, serving them with dignity and compassion. Your caring heart and time will brighten a patient's day--with only a few minutes as a cheerful visitor.

WHAT VOLUNTEERS CAN DO
--Visit patients in a facility or in their homes.
--Read to a patient who otherwise might not have access to favorite books, magazines or newspapers.
--Play an instrument or listen to music.
--Share stories and memories.
--Simply be present with a patient, offering comfort just by being there.
--Bake a birthday cake for a patient.
--Take your certified therapy dogs to visit patients.(We have information about pet therapy registration.)
--Assist with administrative tasks in the office or from your home.
--Create & send personalized cards to patients.
--Knit, crochet or sew lap blankets, shawls and other comfort items for patients.
--Sew memory bears or pillows for bereaved families.
--Provide grief and bereavement support by sending cards, making calls, or helping in the office.

ORIENTATION
Gentiva volunteers are trained in the goals and philosophy of hospice care, as well as the care and comfort of the hospice patient.

Orientation sessions are held monthly at the Gentiva offices, 540 Officenter Place, Gahanna, as well as at an agreed upon location in Licking County for individuals or groups interested in volunteering.

Through their caring, compassion, and time given to hospice patients, our volunteers continue to make an invaluable contribution to our patients' personal emotional and spiritual growth, and greater appreciation for life.

Training provided. Background check & TB screening required (at Gentiva's expense).
