Summary: The Supported Employment Assistant is an unpaid volunteering opportunity that provides technical and clerical support to the Individual Supported Employment Group.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Technical duties are, but not limited to:

  • Promote participant acquisition of job skills
  • Under the direction of the Case Manager, conduct intake into the Effort To Outcome (ETO) and other digital client monitoring systems that apply.
  • Work with Placement department in identifying potential employers in the community and presenting appropriate job leads to participants.
  • Review all pertinent referral data to determine eligibility into placement or to make a recommendation/referral to case manager.
  • Facilitate Workshops as scheduled.
  • Assist Work Evaluator with Meet and Greet participant vocational interest test.
  • Maintain documentation of recorded job openings obtained for students, students referred, follow-up taken, and any other appropriate action.
  • Consult case manager in regard to participants program needs at scheduled meetings.

Clerical duties are, but not limited to:

  • Assist the participants in coordinating adjunct services (i.e. transportation, day care, etc.) in order to enhance success.
  • Maintain necessary reports and documentation for participant files and referring counselors.
  • File participants’ records in hard files and keep it updated. Conduct internet research on job openings, job fairs, potential employers, etc.
  • Program documentation, including file management, on all participants assigned to the ISE Services caseload. This would include enrollment paperwork, case notes, referrals, and contractor responses.

Safety responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Observe safe working conditions, working habit, work procedures, methods and processes at all times.
  • Identify unsafe and/or hazardous conditions/practices at work area and reports to supervisor for immediate action
  • Continuously seeks improvement of work methods and processes and applies identified improvement(s) to present job.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services preferred. Minimum of 2 years experience in working with people with disabilities and/or barriers to employment highly desired.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization and persons with diverse background.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Computer Skills: To perform the duties of this job, the employee should be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet Explorer. Knowledge in Outlook is also preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certification in First Aid/CPR/HIV. May be required to be trained in behavior management techniques.

Other Skills and Abilities: Proven skills in development of rapport and communication with referral sources and employers.

Demonstrated effectiveness in dealing with individuals with disabilities.

Must be able to effectively communicate over the telephone with employers, referral sources and participants.

Other Qualifications: Must be able to travel* throughout the community during business hours. This volunteer may be required to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly required to talk or hear. The volunteer is frequently required to sit. The volunteer is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, list and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close range, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Must be capable of physically performing tasks required of participant in order to model and demonstrate desired behaviors.

Work Hours and Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is occasionally exposed to various weather conditions due to travel*, extreme cold and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, occasionally loud. The Volunteer is also required to observe office protocol, dress codes, must show professional demeanor and tact in dealing with people. Work hours to be arranged with supervisor. Volunteer must commit to work at least 3 to 4 hours per week with 2 to 3 months duration.
