Lunch Buddies

All it takes is 1 person, 1 child and 1 hour per week to make a difference!

Be a Mentor is a nonprofit organization that runs 3 signature in-school mentoring programs at 22 schools across the Lowcountry (elementary, middle and high school). Additionally, we offer 2 programs with a specific focus on academic improvement. Through weekly meetings, mentors work to instill confidence, build social and emotional skills, and ensure that every child has a caring adult in their lives. For more information, visit www.beamentornow.org.

The Lunch Buddies program fills the need for in-school mentoring for elementary school children and pairs share conversation, do arts & crafts and play sports & games. Project Shine is for middle school students and focuses on career exploration, academic success and teaches the importance of setting and reaching goals. The Career Path Mentoring program matches mentors with high school students interested in similar career areas and helps students explore secondary education options as well as develop skills for the future workplace. Basics Boosters pairs adult tutors with elementary students to improve basic skills in fundamental subjects and After-school Academic Mentoring pairs adult mentors with youth at the Carolina Youth Development Center to offer academic support as well as life mentoring.
