Through school visits and materials delivery, this position will help to make more children aware of the library and its events, and encourage literacy through reading during the summer.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pick up flyers at the library and deliver them to the 17 schools and preschools in the San Carlos area before the beginning of the month in which the events are scheduled. This task occurs every month.
2. Develop a relationship with the school secretaries or administrators at each site so that they know you represent the San Carlos Library.
3. Attend one hour Summer Reading Program training at the San Carlos Library at the beginning of April.
4. Visit as many schools as possible during April and May to promote the Summer Reading Program. These visits will be scheduled by the Branch Manager or Youth Services Librarian. Visits will usually consist of manning a table display and giving away flyers and freebies to promote the Summer Reading Program. These visits will likely be with another volunteer or library employee.
5. Keep track of how many children visit the table display and report back to the San Carlos Library.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to the Library’s vision and mission
- Experience with children
- Good interpersonal skills
- Driver’s license, insurance, and access to a vehicle
