An amazing program for seniors, the "Foster Grandparent Program" pays a small tax-free stipend to moderate-income seniors in exchange for volunteering with children at schools, childcare centers, Head Starts, after-school programs and other youth settings. They gain some much-needed income that does NOT affect Social Security, rental assistance or any other benefits. You choose the age-group you prefer, from infants to high schoolers. We find a placement near your home for you. Just for those over age 55.

Volunteers are trained to encourage and support learning. For example, you might help children with worksheets, read to them, listen to them read, tutor literacy or math, provide emotional support, mentor, nurture infants or toddlers, do puzzles, answer questions, role-model, teach social skills, tutor middle- or high school level students or other activities. What you do depends on what you enjoy doing and the age-group you prefer.

We provide ongoing support and monthly workshops and social gatherings. Foster Grandparents experience fun and a very rewarding sense of accomplishment doing something extremely important. They receive the heartfelt appreciation of the children, teachers and schools. They feel needed, appreciated and empowered through this wonderful Federal program.
