INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT :

Social Media & Electronic Communications Intern

(Part-time, unpaid)

The Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter is a leader in the environmental movement and brings the slogan "think globally, act locally" to life in the Silicon Valley.

We are seeking a motivated, friendly and creative individual with knowledge and understanding of the digital media realm and promotion tools. The intern hired for this position will need strong critical thinking skills in order to integrate into our passionate team of volunteers and staff to understand the breadth of our activities. The Social Media Intern will work closely with the staff and Chapter volunteers to ensure that our activities and successes are accurately and engagingly promoted.

An ideal candidate...

  • Education: Has or is pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Marketing, Business, Public Relations, Communications, or a related degree
  • 2 years of experience using social media (Facebook, MeetUp, Twitter, YouTube, etc) and promotion tools like Hootsuite.
  • Available to come to our office in Palo Alto for at least 4 months, 8-12 hours a week, Monday-Friday, during business hours (some work can be done out of the office)
  • Passion and the drive to take action on local environmental issues and uphold Sierra Club sustainability goals

Key Responsibilities:

  • Craft Facebook , Meetup, Twitter posts using content submitted by Chapter volunteers and activists.
  • Help craft communication plans for various messages (how often and how frequently should we share the same message?)
  • Attend at least 2 Chapter Meetings each month to build relationship with chapter volunteers and activists, encourage them to submit content.
  • Develop and Build a LinkedIn Page for the Chapter
  • Craft and send Press Releases when Chapter has a major victory or hits an important milestone
  • Support the creation of monthly electronic newsletter but writing and/or editing articles
  • Publicize events and outings on community calendars
  • Work with our videographers to create YouTube videos to support Chapter’s campaigns
  • Other tasks as assigned

The Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter organizes outdoor recreation for people of all ages, advocates for policies that protect our natural environment, supports environmental candidates for public office, and provides opportunities for people who want to develop leadership skills to give back to the community and help the environment.
