Be A Mentor

Think you have nothing to offer the youth of today? Are you 21 years old or older?

To be a mentor, you don't need any special skills--just an ability to listen, offer friendship, guidance, and encouragement to a young person growing up in today's world. You'll be amazed by how much you'll get out of the experience by encouraging our at-risk youth. We work with youth age 10-17 who are involved in the juvenile justice system or are at-risk of being system involved. We encourage mentors to be a consistent adult in the life of these promising young people. All you have to do is open yourself to sharing new experiences with a mentee!

You can change the life of a young person in the Austin community forever. You don't have to be perfect, you just have to be there! As a role model and mentor for the Southwest Key youth mentoring program you are helping to keep kids out of the juvenile justice system and at home with their families and in their communities.

How can you help?

Spend one hour a week - only 4 hours a month - with one of our youth. You can:

  • Go to the mall
  • Go to the park
  • Grab something to eat
  • Go to a movie
  • Take a drive and listen to music
  • Go to an arcade
  • Go to a museum
  • And much more!

We provide:

  • Training
  • On-going support
  • Monthly events
  • And more.

To be a mentor, you don't need any special skills--just an ability to listen, offer friendship, guidance, and encouragement to a young person growing up in today's world. You'll be amazed by how much you'll get out of the experience by encouraging our at risk youth.

Southwest Key Youth Mentoring Program is currently recruiting adults looking to share their time and talent encouraging positive outcomes for Travis County Youth. The Southwest Key Youth Mentoring Program serves as a continuum of care that provides mentors for youth between the ages of ten (10) and seventeen (17) years. The goal of the program is to establish and support mentoring relationships that have a long-lasting, positive impact on each participating youth.

Why volunteer with Southwest Key Youth Mentoring:
• We provide training to equip you for your volunteer mentoring experience.
• Provide continued support through your commitment.
• Provide low to no cost activities for you and your mentee on a monthly calendar.
• Monthly informal lunches to provide a venue for mentors to exchange ideas, peer support, and provide any assistance.

We do offer a $25 referral fee for every person you refer or yourself! But must first meet these criterias before payment:
