The Walking School Bus is a program that picks up children, who are unable to get picked up by the school bus due to their close proximity to their Elementary School. The children walk with volunteers to and from school everyday. At many schools in South Providence, chronic absenteeism is a huge problem. The Walking School Bus is a program that will help address the chronic absenteeism issue. It takes some of the responsibility off the parents who were forced to walk or drive their child to school everyday. Think of it like carpooling, but instead of driving we are walking!
