ORGANIZATION: NAMI DuPage

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 10 people are interested

The mission of the NAMI DuPage Outreach Committee is to raise awareness about mental illness through attending social events, hosting fundraisers, and creating lasting partnerships in the communities we serve.

Doing this provides the unique opportunity for people to learn what our organization has to provide individuals with a mental illness and their family members so they may improve the quality of their lives.

Chairs and Co-Chairs of the following subcommittees are automatically enrolled as members of the primary Outreach Committee.

Special Events Subcommittee

The members of this committee attend events in the community where space is reserved to set up a both. This enabled us to meet and talk to anyone interested in more information on what NAMI DuPage has to offer.

Opportunity: We are currently looking for people that are outgoing and enthusiastic to attend events and inform people about NAMI DuPage and the ways we can be of help to them or their family.

Fundraising Events Subcommittee

Through local businesses the participants of this committee will host events in which our NAMI members and donors are invited to have an enjoyable fun night out while raising money for our organization.

Opportunity: We are currently looking for people that like to plan and put on functions! The focus would be to educate people about mental illness and to reduce the associated stigma related to persons with mental health disorders, all while enjoying a night out with family and friends.

Community Partnerships Subcommittee

Through researching and visiting local churches, non-profits, libraries, businesses and mental health professionals in our community we aim to create long lasting community relationships and networks.

Opportunity: We are currently looking for people willing to become Outreach Committee members who will oversee the 9 DuPage County townships. We are also looking for volunteers willing to initiate relationships in the community by talking with different organizations and educating them about NAMI DuPage. We encourage leaving behind materials for their use. Within a months time follow up would be done asking if more materials are needed or if any questions arose.

Townships: Wayne, Bloomingdale, Addison, Winfield, Milton, York, Naperville, Lisle, and Downers Grove. (Please refer to image of map to know what cities are included in each township.).

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide support, advocacy and education in order to improve the quality of life of individuals with mental illness and their families.

Description

Who We Are:
NAMI DuPage is a grass roots organization, funded primarily by individual donations and supported by volunteers with first-hand experience as caregivers and as individuals with mental illnesses.

As an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a nationwide mental health advocacy organization dedicated to improving the quality of lives of people affected by mental illnesses. One of the largest and most innovative of 1,200 in the country and 41 in Illinois, our affiliate provides services and programs that offer relief, resources and importantly - hope for recovery - to individuals and families alike.

History:
NAMI DuPage was founded by a group of parents in 1985 who were looking for services for their children who had been diagnosed with mental illnesses. By joining forces, they thought they could advocate for improved services. NAMI DuPage has grown from this small handful of people to an organization of over 1,000 members. NAMI has been a catalyst for change and reform in DuPage County.
