Do you remember the first book you ever read? Do you remember the feeling of confidence as you turned the last page of your favorite book? If you're interested in passing that feeling along to a child struggling to read, then East Side Learning Center is the place for you.
ESLC serves children in grades K-3 on Saint Paul's East Side. We are currently tutoring at four schools: John A. Johnson Elementary, Saint Paul Music Academy, HOPE Community Academy, and Community of Peace Academy. Our mission is "unlocking each child's potential through the foundation of reading" and our tutors live it every day.
The commitment isn't much: if you have an hour a week to share, are proficient in English, and love working with children, then you can make a difference in the life of a child.

Mission Statement
"Unlocking each child's potential through the foundation of reading."
Description
East Side Learning Center (ESLC) strives to be a major force in "unlocking each child’s potential through the foundation of reading." ESLC does this by providing year-round, personalized, one-on-one reading tutoring at no cost to families for nearly 350 St. Paul children (K-3) who read below grade level and do not have the resources to get help elsewhere. The students we serve reflect the vast economic and culturally diversity on the east side of St. Paul with most of our children coming from families that live at or below the poverty line and do not speak English as their first language. ESLC was founded in 2001 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in response to a request by the civic leaders of St. Paul to form an educational partnership. Our vision is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to read at grade level by the 4th grade.
