POTS' Community Dining Room feels more like a neighborhood cafe than a soup kitchen. As a volunteer at POTS, you will help with meal preparation and service. POTS' Community Dining Room is open every day and feeds an average of 425 guests per day.

We rely on volunteers in order to make our Dining Room a warm and welcoming environment for our guests. Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance and to do many of the tasks that they would do at a restaurant, with the exception of any cooking. Designed to resemble a caf, POTS Dining Room guests are greeted at the door by a host(ess), seated at small tables decorated with seasonal centerpieces and tablecloths, and their meals are served by volunteers. Working together, POTS staff & volunteers ensure that while they are with us, our guests are provided with a dignified environment and treated with respect.

ABOUT POTS

Our mission is to be a loving community in the Bronx that nourishes the basic needs and hungers of all who come to our door.

Mission Statement

The mission of Part of the Solution (POTS) is to be a loving community in the Bronx that nourishes the basic needs and hungers of all who come to our door. Founded in 1982 as a soup kitchen, POTS has expanded its mission from feeding its neighbors to nourishing the myriad of needs of the community in a holistic way.

Description

Helping low-income families and individuals since 1982, POTS has grown to become a leading
provider of emergency food, social services and legal representation in the Bronx. Services span
a wide spectrum of human needs and are designed to help people move from crisis to stability,
and eventually self-sufficiency. Currently, services include a Community Dining Room, open
seven days a week; a Food Pantry; Nutrition Education, Clothing Room, Shower, and Mail
Facilities; Barbershop; Case Management to help people address barriers to stability; a Legal
Clinic specializing in eviction prevention and improper denial of benefits; and the POTS Family
Club, to provide intensive case management, education, social, and nutrition support to a select
group of families. POTS also holds a variety of seasonal distributions for items such as back-toschool
supplies, Thanksgiving turkeys and holiday gifts and is host to a Medical and Dental Clinic.
