WELCOME DESK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Overview:
The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas needs volunteers to join our Guest Services Team by working at our Welcome Desk. Welcome Desk Volunteers make the first and last impression on visitors to the museum. By acting in a professional, engaging and inclusive manner, our Team Members ensure that our guests feel welcome, safe and excited about their visit.
Museum Welcome Desk Tasks:
- Cheerfully greet all visitors
- Provide information, directions or other assistance
- Track visitor attendance
- Assist researchers in registering for library access
- Assist guests with digital resources and audio tours
- Answer the museum’s information phone line
- Alert museum staff to any safety concerns in the entry area
- Maintain Welcome Desk cleanliness and appearance
- Assist other staff with projects if available
Schedule Availability:
- Days: Saturday and/or Sunday
- Time: Up to four hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Physical Abilities:
- Verbal ability to communicate with guests
- Visual ability to monitor visitors for compliance with mask requirements
- Hearing ability to communicate with the public by phone
- Immune system tolerance for some public contact with PPE
- Hand and finger dexterity
Work Needs:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Enjoy meeting and talking to visitors
- Flexible in adjusting to varying work assignments
- Can tolerate both slow and fast-paced customer traffic periods
- Willing to research and learn Nevada history relevant to gallery exhibits and store merchandise to enhance visitor interest
Work Environment:
- The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is situated on the Springs Preserve campus, boasting numerous acres of walking trails, water features, native flora and fauna and other attractions, free to use or for a nominal fee.
- Nevada State Museum Guest Services work areas are near the museum entrance in an air-conditioned, state-of-the-art facility.
- Depending on attendance, noise levels can interrupt normal conversation.
- During slow visitor traffic periods, chairs and computers are available for volunteer use.
- Parking is adjacent to the museum and relatively close to the entrance
- Periodic breaks will be provided
- Required to wear a mask and follow other safety protocols while in the museum.

Description
Located in the Springs Preserve, a 180-acre campus of trails, gardens, and exhibits, the Nevada State Museum offers a fascinating look at Nevada's history and natural history. In addition to exhibit galleries, the Museum has a research library that focuses on southern Nevada history, an education lab, meeting rooms, and spacious banquet facilities.
