Volunteer as a Tax Preparer! It's the Learning-Motivating-Skill Building Way to Make a Difference

Help change the story for families in Tampa Bay. As a volunteer with the VITA free tax campaign in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Sarasota or Desoto counties- you can make a very tangible, immediate difference to someone by helping them file their tax return at one of our free filing sites. Help them keep more of what they earn and avoid spending hundreds of dollars to have a basic tax return filed. The experience is incredible, and the people you will meet- and have the chance to volunteer with- are some of the nicest around! We especially focus our efforts on reaching seniors, families, persons with disabilities and speakers of other languages.

This is a great skill-building project if you’ve never done taxes before and would like to learn. We provide all of the training you need. If you already have a background in accounting or finance, this is the perfect place to share your expertise!

If you’re not sure you want to prepare taxes, we need volunteers in several other capacities as well. It takes many hands to make this work- both at the tax sites and behind the scenes! We need greeters/intake specialists, volunteer recruiters, and outreach/publicity volunteers. We do ask volunteers to commit to work a minimum of one shift per week (typically 4 hours) during the tax season (mid-January to mid-April). Location hours vary and shifts are available mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
