Want to advance your Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related degree, make international friends, engage with your community, and increase your understanding of other cultures? Join the Global Refugee Center team as the ESL Program Intern! Job Description: Prepare bi-monthly English as a Second Language (ESL) assessments for all levels of ESL classes, make copies of lesson worksheets/handouts for teachers prior to morning classes, and find stories, reading passages, and other supplemental curriculum for classes, especially pre-literate classes. Research best practices for curriculum for pre-literate classes. Write monthly TANF, LFS report using ESL attendance. Make monthly ESL Attendance sheets using pre-existing template. Make sure teacher supplies are available and working and organize teacher resource shelf. Commitment: multiple positions available. Minimum 3 days per week, anytime between 9am and 5pm. At least one semester commitment. Qualifications: Associates degree or higher preferred. Early Childhood/Elementary Education, General Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related coursework recommended. Must be a flexible self-starter; experience working with people from other cultures is a plus. Description
The Global Refugee Center, Inc. (GRC) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit in Greeley, CO that educates, empowers, and advocates on behalf of the refugee population living in the community. The GRC promotes self-sufficiency in refugees by implementing programs in Education, Health, Finance, Culture, and Civil & Human Rights. The GRC's serves newcomers from 47 different countries in Africa, Asia, North and Central America who speak more than two dozen languages and practice at least four religions. GRC is entirely volunteer driven, with 3 full-time/2 part-time staff who dedicate their time without compensation and 60 other individuals who contribute anywhere from one hour a month to twenty hours a week. In the three and a half years since it's founding in 2008, the GRC has significantly impacted the lives of refugees living in Greeley and Weld County, Colorado.
