The Media Research & Analysis Intern's main responsibility is to actively read The Seattle Times, document its coverage of Muslims and Islam, identify trends and produce our annual research report.

This is a great opportunity to conduct research and write analysis that has a meaningful impact on local community and national discussions. Each report is presented to The Seattle Times and circulated among our partner organizations and the greater community.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Understanding of current events
  • Strong reading comprehension
  • Ability to logically analyze trends and present arguments verbally and in writing
  • Detail orientated organizational skills
  • Self-directed internet and academic research skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Google Docs
  • Punctuality, reliability and a professional demeanor
  • Ability to give and receive feed back
  • Positive, 'can-do' attitude

Time commitment: A minimum six month, twelve hours per week commitment is required. Depending on the position, exceptions may be made for Summer internships (beginning in May or June), which, if the applicant desires, can instead require a 3.5 month, 30-35 hours per week minimum commitment. Internship hours must be completed in the office, within the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Office location: Our physical office (different from our mailing address) is very conveniently located near downtown Seattle just two blocks east of Metro's International District Tunnel Station. Any bus that goes to downtown Seattle from across the Puget Sound region can drop you off within 2 blocks of our office.

CAIR-WA is a growing organization and working here presents unique challenges and opportunities. This is not just a regular internship for office work; interns at CAIR-WA not only implement their programs with a high degree of independence, but also refine the organization's goals to better meet the needs of community. We have been continually growing the scope of The Seattle Times Analysis project and interns will be expected to be able to adapt for rapidly changing current events.
