Agency Mission

The mission of Family Promise of Passaic County is to provide compassionate assistance to children and their families who are facing homelessness, to keep families together in their time of crisis, and to equip them to regain independence and self-sufficiency.

Vision for the Community

Family Promise of Passaic County, an affiliate of Family Promise National, is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization dedicated to ending the crisis of homelessness faced by Passaic County families. Its vision is to provide children and their families who are facing homelessness with clean safe shelter, and responsive and compassionate support,that will provide a path to independence and self-sufficiency. Central to the vision is the development of a partnership with public and private agencies to help families regain self-sufficiency. Also central to the vision is the participation of religious congregations and community volunteers, who provide hospitality for families in the program. We believe that Family Promise offers a transformative life experience not only for our guest families, but also for our volunteers.

Description

We are a public charity or a nonprofit organization that provides temporary housing and case management to area homeless families to empower them to obtain sustainable housing and independence. We do that by partnering with area churches or congregations to utilize their space and volunteers. Our volunteers provide unconditional love, acceptance and support to our families that is invaluable in helping them walk through this part of their journey.

We serve only families with minor children and limit our program size to 14 individuals. The Family Promise model keeps families together while providing intensive case management to help them, as a family, return to self-sufficiency. Using this model, Family Promise of Passaic County links guest families to job training, social services, and employment opportunities. Our goal is to have their guests to take advantage of every opportunity to be independent and successful. To assist in this effort, we offer a daytime Family Center in Passaic with a computer lab, laundry facilities, and a location for experts and classes on job hunting, budgeting and parenting to be held.
