Incarcerated Voices

Today, imprisonment and incarceration have become a fundamental component of popular culture. The voices of prisoners today are being commandeered by corporate media. National Geographic and MSNBC, among others, have decided that American prisons are fascinating. Even TV chef Gordon Ramsay recently released a new reality show in which he teaches prisoners how to cook. Incarcerated Voices provides prisoners an unfiltered voice that examines the reality of the American penal system.

Incarcerated Voices is an exploration into the circumstances and conditions of incarceration through the eyes, ears, and hearts of prisoners. We seek to foster insight into the prisoner's responses to broaden the general public's understanding of the prison population today. The intent is to give a voice to the voiceless.

We are looking for individuals who are interested in providing our nation's incarcerated individuals a voice. Volunteers will voice/read transcribed letters in MP3 format. Letters will be provided electronically in a double-spaced PDF format. Prospective voiceovers should have a good sounding micophone, audio editing software, and an interest in the criminal justice and penal system. Prior voiceover experience is not needed - we are willing to train you and offer guidance!

This volunteer opportunity requires an audition in a studio located in Joliet, Illinois. Auditions are by appointment only and will be arranged upon contacting us. We are flexible in terms of scheduling the audition.

We are especially seeking African-American and Hispanic/Latino male voices!
