Volunteers Making a Difference!

Do you have a passion for caring? Have you been looking for a way to make a difference? Volunteering with VistaCare may be just right for you.

At VistaCare Hospice, we have a special appreciation for those who give of themselves by serving as hospice volunteers. They are indispensable to the patients and families we serve, and are key members of our hospice care team. Whether it's visiting patients, building a wheelchair platform, helping out in the office, or sharing a special talent, the assistance of a volunteer allows our healthcare professionals to devote more time to providing exceptional care to our patients and their families.

Training
VistaCare volunteers are thoroughly trained in the goals and philosophy of hospice care, as well as the care and comfort of the hospice patient. Training for patient care volunteers addresses such topics as:

  • Providing comfort and support to patients and families
  • Understanding emotional and spiritual needs of patients at end of life
  • Concepts of death and dying
  • Emergency procedures

Making a Difference
VistaCare volunteers assist patients and their families in a variety of ways, including:

  • Providing grief and bereavement support
  • Visiting with and keeping patients company
  • Keeping the patient environment clean, comfortable and inviting
  • Making personal items in your own home that bring comfort to patients

Volunteers can also support hospice services behind the scenes by:

  • Sharing the hospice story with the community
  • Assisting in administrative and clerical tasks
  • Coordinating support services
  • Organizing special events
  • Working with other community organizations

Description

Gentiva Hospice needs volunteers for patients in Central Indiana Counties such as Boone, Clinton, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan, Putnam and Tippacanoe.

Gentiva Hospice invites you to "Make a difference One Patient at a time"

A hospice patient's life expectancy is 6 months or less. They may need someone to reflect and help them with life review, to assure them that their life was full and productive. A friend who may be willing to laugh over life's follies or cry over lost dreams. You may be the friend who will care enough to sit quietly with them, when they no longer have the energy to talk. As a patient knowing you are dying, is difficult enough. But to die alone is not acceptable. You will make a difference!
