Do you love pets? Be a part of a unique program that allows hospice patients to complete their end of life journey without worrying about their pet's current or future needs. This special program provides volunteer pet care services for patients who are unable to care for their pets while on hospice. Services may include assistance with basic in-home pet care to raising funds for financial and shopping assistance for pet food, cat litter, routine veterinary care and vaccinations. Currently, volunteers are needed to walk dogs, provide waste clean-up, feed pets, and provide transportation to veterinary visits or groomers. Please note: These services would be provided at the patient's home; we do not provide shelter for these pets, though we may occassionally need help with fostering a pet. We also need assistance just getting the word out to our animal friendly community--pet stores, vets, rescue groups and others. A NOTE FOR TEEN APPLICANTS: Our minimum age to volunteer is 14, with limited opportunities available for our teen volunteers (14-17). Teen volunteers can work in the Cornerstone Hospice office(s) and/or help at Cornerstone Hospice community events. Direct patient care opportunities are also available when with a trained adult volunteer and a commitment of 100 patient care hours or more within your first year. Teens are expected to provide their own transportation. PLEASE NOTE: All Cornerstone Hospice volunteers are required to go through a mandatory volunteer training class with additional training required for some positions. For this reason, becoming a Cornerstone Hospice volunteer is typically not appropriate for court related community service hours or other short-term requests. Ideally, our volunteers commit to at least one year with us.
Volunteer Training will be offered:
- April17, May 16 or June 26, 2015
all trainings are 9 am-5 pm with lunch and materials provided

Mission Statement
Cornerstone Hospice's mission is simple: Delivering extraordinary care to every person we touch in every community we serve. Volunteer opportunites are available throughout the seven Central Florida counties we serve: Hardee, Highlands, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Sumter, and now in Cobb County, Georgia. If you live in a neighboring county, you can still volunteer. However, all of your volunteer activities will take place in one of our seven counties, typically the one closest to you. PLEASE NOTE: Even if you are interested in several different volunteer roles within our organization, you only need to click on one opportunity during this process. You will have a chance to discuss ALL of your areas of interest during your volunteer training. Thanks!
Description
Cornerstone Hospice volunteers are a vital part of our entire organization, and play an active role in helping to provide the many special comfort and support services that distinguish Cornerstone Hospice care.
Our volunteers are special, but not out of the ordinary. They are regular people just like you. They use common sense and understanding. They do not need a medical background. They listen. They care. Volunteers help make a patient's life more fulfilling and satisfying by giving their time, understanding, and support and asking nothing in return. They also provide support to caregivers who are often with the patient 24/7 and may need a much needed break. If direct care is not for you, you can assist with administrative tasks at our office locations, and help out with events and community outreach. Any Cornerstone Hospice volunteer will tell you that they feel they receive more from their experience than they give.
PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers are required to go through a training class with additional training required for some positions. For this reason, becoming a Cornerstone Hospice volunteer is typically not appropriate for court related community service hours or other short-term requests. Ideally, our volunteers commit to at least one year with us.
