Books for America needs volunteers to help go through the thousands of donated used books we receive each week, sort them into categories, and help pick and choose books appropriate for our recipient organizations. Our warehouse is in Fairfax, VA, 25 minutes outside of Washington, DC. We have thousands of books coming in each week - it's a lot of fun sorting through them and seeing what comes in! Pretty much a used book lovers paradise. This is great for a retiree, stay at home parents or college student with time during the week. We do ask that you can read/write/speak English proficiently.
It is not metro accessible, but we do have plenty of free parking. We are at the warehouse Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm. Any time you could put in would be greatly appreciated! Our greatest need currently is repeat, regular volunteers.

Description
Books for America is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.. We distribute donated new and used books of all types; movies; music and instructional cd's; audiobooks; and more to organizations in the local Washington, DC area serving economically, socially, or physically disadvantaged communities and individuals. Recipients include hospitals, inner-city and rural schools, assisted living communities for seniors, adult literacy programs, V.A. hospitals, youth centers, women's shelters, hospices, and other such organizations. We obtain needed items both from donation drives held in communities, and also directly from publishers. Items you wish to donate could also be shipped directly to us.
