JA BizTown is an experiential economic simulation that helps 4th, 5th and 6th grade students prepare for and become productive citizens in a 10,000-square-foot replica of an American city. This colorful and bustling town has its own retail stores, bank, utilities, stock market, newspaper, restaurant and city hall. A total of 14 enterprises are outfitted with modern office technology, equipment and supplies. The town serves as the venue for an instructional simulation that reinforces students, language arts, social studies, math, and technology skills by giving them real-life application. The program is a hands-on learning experience designed to improve knowledge and shape attitudes about the opportunities and responsibilities of a citizen in the American free enterprise system.

There are only 26 JA BizTowns in the nation and one in Owings Mills, Maryland. Twenty (20) business volunteers mentor students through the simulation for each school that runs JA BizTown. Often, they are members of the school's PTA, however the at risk Title 1 schools are always in need of business mentors.

Your company's employees can help empower the next generation to own their future economic success by mentoring our students through their JA BizTown visit.

One hour of training is needed on the morning that you will be volunteering in JA BizTown and your day lasts from 8:30am - 2pm.

Don't have 20 volunteers? Don't worry, JA works with hundreds of local companies to recruit enough volunteers on the days they are needed and we let you know well in advance of your volunteer date.
