ANNUAL JINGLE BELL RUN/WALK (December 7, 2014)
A fun and festive way to kick off the holiday season while raising funds and awareness to fight the leading cause of disability. Participants form a team, raise funds and come dressed in holiday-themed costumes. Then they tie jingle bells to their shoelaces and complete a 5 kilometer time or untimed route.
Help us make this event in Downtown San Rafael at 4th & Court Streets a huge success! Volunteer for any of the following positions:
- Arthritis Foundation Booth (2-4 needed): Starts at 8am. Hand out health assessment and other educational materials.
- Course Director (1-2 needed): Starts at 7am. Ensure that course is designated and marked; assists Course Monitors with the route
- Course Monitors (10 needed): Starts at 7am. Place route markers, supervise traffic along the course route and help participants stay on course.
- Finish Line (30): Starts at 9am. Cheer participants across finish line, pass out "goody" bags and ask them to complete survey.
- Floaters/Runners: Make signs and do miscellaneous tasks day of the event.
- Greeters (2 needed): Starts at 7am. Greet participants as they arrive, direct them to registration tables.
- Info Helpers (30 needed): Starts at 7am (jingle bells in their baskets). Work as pairs answering questions and directing individuals to appropriate areas, holding information signs.
- Kids Zone Attendants (10 needed): Starts at 7am. Face painting and entertain children with games, toys and activities in the designated area
- Pre-Registration Check-in (12 needed): Starts at 7am. Check-in pre-registered participants, collect money and pass out route map with agenda.
- Refreshment Helpers (30): 2 shifts available. 7-10 am or 10am-2pm. Set-up tables, hand out refreshment at conclusion of the event.
- Registration Table Helpers (8 needed): Starts at 7am. Check-in participants, collect money and pass out route map with agenda.
- Set-up/Clean-up Crew (40 needed): 2 shifts available: 7-10am or 10-2pm. Assist with set-up, clean-up and break down of equipment. Drop-off tables, water and cups at designated areas. At the end of the event, pick-up trash and clean-up event site.
- Starting Line (30 needed): Starts at 7am. Decorate starting line area with balloons, banners, etc. Check PA system and get participants started.
- Water Station Attendants (30 needed): 2 shifts available. 7-10am or 10am-12pm. Load water and tables onto truck, set-up water stations & pass out water during and at the end of the event.
Groups encouraged! Volunteers under 16 will need to have a parent/guardian/chaperone present.
SCHOOL AGE VOLUNTEERS: Yes, we will verify Community Service hours.

Description
The Arthritis Foundation Northern California Office:
- partners with community organizations to provide people with arthritis access to evidence-based physical activity programs (aquatic exercise, land-based exercise, tai chi & walking)
- offers free educational seminars & patient education brochures
- provides support and activities for children with Juvenile Arthritis & their families
- referrals to local rheumatologists, support groups
- funds arthritis research both locally and nationally
- provides physicians with continuing medical education in the form of the annual Knowles Lecture
- offers the Summer Science Intership Program which provides top-notch HS juniors and seniors & college frosh & sophomores the ability to work in arthritis research at UCSF & Stanford.
