THE POSITION

Under the general direction of the Social Worker/Site Coordinator, the Social Worker Volunteer is a jack of all trades providing outreach, advocacy, information, and referrals to the variety of individuals who require our services. This is a fantastic position for anyone interested in issues related to homelessness, poverty, drug addiction, criminality, healthcare, job training/resume building, etc. In this position, you will be exposed to the entire spectrum of low income/poverty related issues. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Utilize the web, telephone, and our compiled information to solve a multitude of client problems related to homelessness, poverty, drug addiction, criminality, healthcare, job training/resume building, etc.

• Provide information and referrals to off-site service providers.

• Develop new resources and relationships with outside service providers.

DESIRED SKILLS

• A heart for the poor and destitute with capacity to work with a culturally diverse population.

• A self-start attitude

• Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.

• Computer proficiency.

• Initiative, creativity, patience.

• Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.

• Attention to detail.

TIME COMMITMENT

• Volunteers must work at least one day per week for a minimum of 4 hours.
• The Social Service Department is currently open Monday-Friday from 10am - 5pm.
• We need volunteers year round. The longer you can commit to being here, the better!
• We are currently looking for volunteers to commit to Tuesday and Thursday morning shifts, but could also utilize volunteers for afternoons Monday-Friday
