Be a voice for frail and vulnerable people living in nursing homes in Northern Kentucky. Often facility residents feel too intimidated or worried to report problems to staff. Volunteer Ombudsmen are independent visitors who can observe situations and develop trusting relationships with residents to ensure that resident's rights are being honored.
Volunteers can choose two opportunities:
1) Friendly Visitors are assigned to visit residents at a particular facility. As residents get to know them, they will feel more comfortable telling the volunteers if there are problems at the facility. Friendly visitors would report any concerns to the District Ombudsman, who would work to get the situation resolved. Involves two-hour training program.
2) Volunteer can choose to become certified Ombudsmen who visit residents, but are also trained to mediate on their behalf. 24-hour training program and test is required to become certified.
