Volunteers are essential for a nonprofit organization such as Taratibu Youth Association. Our volunteers play an active role and find their experiences a worthwhile and meaningful way to help out while enjoying a unique perspective from behind the scenes.
Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the calendar year and you can help! These are just some of the important things volunteers help with:
- Fundraisers and special events
- Administrative support
- Costume design, development, and maintenance
- Social media and outreach activities
- Transportation to and from local and regional performances
We are especially seeking a volunteer to fill the role of vocal instructor. As a vocal instructor you would:
- Provide 30 minute to 60 minute weekly vocal lessons
- Assess skills and develop goals and plans for vocal development
- Provide appropriate teaching of music theory and voice instruction so that performers can progress toward their musical goals
We ask that applicants have the following experience and background:
- Vocal music education
- Strong teaching and performing abilities
- At least 2-3 years of experience teaching at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels
- Strong communication skills and effective personal skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills

Description
Taratibu Youth Association is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Mt. Rainier, Maryland.
Taratibu Youth Association (TYA) is best known for its rhythmically powerful and visually inspiring performances of dance accompanied by rich vocal harmonies and vivid spoken word. With eclectic and diverse musical influences, this sensational ensemble of young artists performs modern dance, ballet and hip hop, and African dance.
We have our strongest roots in Taratibu, which combines contemporary military drill movements with traditional African dance. Taratibu also integrates vocals, including traditional Negro spirituals, contemporary gospel and songs in Kiswahili, the national language of several East African countries, as well as vocals in Zulu, the most widely spoken language in South Africa.
Taratibu Youth Association is a resident company of Joe's Movement Emporium in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. With members between the ages of 12 and 18, Taratibu Youth Association performs regionally and nationally in diverse venues, ranging from schools and churches to large performing arts theatres. Taratibu Youth Association also performs internationally, recently completing tours in Ghana, Benin, Togo, and Tanzania, with its next international tour scheduled for 2013 in South Africa.
