The Families in Transition VISTA Program is focused on improving the quality of life for the most disadvantaged members of New Hampshire communities. Our efforts are led by a remarkable team of dedicated AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members from all over the country. Our capacity building VISTAs serve for one year with selected nonprofits and government agencies that provide critical services, training and empowerment programs aimed at lifting residents up and out of the chains of poverty.
Our program has service opportunities available across the state working on a diverse variety of issues. Possible service duties can include:
- Volunteer recruitment and management
- Grant writing
- Fund raising
- Marketing and outreach
- Program development and management
In exchange for their service, VISTA members receive a monthly living stipend of $973-1,210 (before taxes); an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award of $5,550 or a post-service stipend of $1,500; health benefits; medical and personal leave; relocation assistance; and childcare (if eligible). Members also receive professional development trainings throughout the year and have one year of noncompetitive status for federal government jobs upon completion of their service.
We are looking for motivated self-starters with a passion for service! Desired skills include: communications; community organizing; computer technology; education; fundraising/grant writing; leadership; conflict resolution; public speaking; recruitment; writing/editing; youth development; and general skills.

Mission Statement
At Families in Transition our mission is To Prevent and Break the Cycle of Homelessness. There are countless ways to get involved with Families in Transition. At the heart of everything we do are individuals and organizations that choose to donate their time, money and services to help us make a difference in the lives of so many.
Description
Volunteering within the agency is a great opportunity to really see our mission at work and to connect with our staff and participants. Some of these volunteer opportunities include shifts at the food pantry, serving a meal at the shelter, sorting donations at Outfitters, helping with building maintenance, and supporting our staff with various administrative projects. We have opportunities for both individuals and groups as well as on-going and one-time projects.
