CASA for Children of DC provides volunteers (adults age 21 and over) with the opportunity to work with a young person (usually between 6 and 21) who has suffered from abuse or neglect.
CASA volunteers receive 30 hours of training and are then appointed by a judge to represent the best interest of a young person in foster care. CASAs provide the court with valuable insight into the child's life by gathering information about the youth's situation, submitting reports, and making recommendations to the court in the best interest of the young person. CASAs dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per month to their case for at least one year, and attend hearings with their young person once every 3-4 months. These hearings are held during daytime, working hours, but much of the remainder of the CASA work can be done on evenings and weekends.
For more information contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@casadc.org.
Thank you so much for wanting to make a difference in the life of a child!

Mission Statement
CASA DC connects court-involved youth in DC with the one-on-one support of a specially-trained supportive adult figure - a Court Appointed Special Advocate - who can advocate for their best interests and promote positive outcomes. Volunteers are recruited, trained, and supported by CASA DC to serve the particular needs of DC’s foster children and justice-involved youth.
Description
CASA for Children of DC is a leading voice in advocacy for court-involved youth in the District of Columbia. CASA DC connects specially-trained volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) to support vulnerable and at-risk youth in foster care and the juvenile justice system. CASA volunteers develop a mentor-like relationship with their youth and advocate for their youth’s best interests in Court, promoting greater outcomes and the opportunity to thrive. CASA DC started in 2002 to create a legacy of advocacy, born from a desire to provide DC foster care children and justice-involved youth with a consistent adult in what can easily become a whirlwind of attorneys, social workers and related professionals. This all begins with 15 hours minimum a month.
