Kids Fishing Day!
A free day of fishing where children can learn the basics of fishing, fish biology and fish ethics, plus make crafts and have a great time.

Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge is seeking volunteers to help staff the BioBlitz Festival and Kids' Fishing Day activities on Saturday, June 13th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Over 400 people attend this festival and volunteers make the event run smoothly.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities, including staffing the Bug Tent, Fish Printing Station and Kid Craft Room; assisting with set-up and clean-up; helping teach kids the art of casting and rigging and most importantly helping everyone to have fun!

A BioBlitz is a 24-hour rapid survey of biological diversity. On June 12th and 13th, local scientists, naturalists, and volunteers will comb Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge to find and identify as many different species of plants and animals as possible. Although BioBlitzes are held across the country, this is Idaho’s only one!

The public is invited to attend the refuge’s 9th annual BioBlitz Festival on Saturday June 11th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. All activities are free, so please volunteer to help the Refuge deliver a fantastic event!

How to Apply: Please, call Mackenzie Tietjen at (208) 467-9278 or email deerflat@fws.gov for an application

Description

Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, founded by President Theodore Roosevelt on February 25, 1909, is one of the oldest refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS).

Managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the System preserves a network of lands and waters set aside for the conservation and management of the nation's fish, wildlife, and plant resources for the benefit of present and future generations.

Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge needs your talents, enthusiasm, and time! If you appreciate and are concerned about the refuge and its wildlife, then consider becoming a refuge volunteer.
