Kennel Turn Out provides you with direct contact with the dogs. The most important requirement for a kennel volunteer is to learn the protocols we use to maintain the health of the dogs in our care and begin the process of transitioning them from racers to companion pets. This requires being able to handle a range of responsibilities including (1) Cleaning kennels and bedding effectively using prescribed protocols, (may include working with bleach), (2) Feeding the dogs according to prescribed protocols, (3) Administering medications as indicated on the dog’s care log, and (4) Taking dogs out into an enclosed yard for exercise and play. Turn Out is done only in the morning and usually lasts about 2 hours depending on the number of dogs currently housed at the kennel. Training is provided and a new volunteer is required to have at least 2 training sessions. We would continue mentoring a new volunteer until he/she is comfortable working on his/her own. The dogs love the volunteers and the volunteers get lots of dog kisses in return.

Mission Statement

Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that provides the opportunity to better the lives of ex-racing and rescued greyhounds by finding them loving and qualified forever homes in the Southern Arizona area.

To support this mission, SAGreys identifies caring and responsible homes; rescues sick, injured, and abandoned greyhounds; seeks to return lost greyhounds to their owners; teaches the principles of kindness and humane dog care to children and adults; promotes birth control by neutering or spaying all intake animals; provides pre-adoption health services; provides residential foster care to assist the greyhounds in becoming acclimated to a home environment.

Description

Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption, SA Greys, is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving forever homes for greyhounds.

We are the new greyhound adoption group in Southern Arizona, with more than 70 veteran greyhound adopters and volunteers. Our members have 5, 10, 15 years experience in greyhound adoption. We have done it all - clean kennels, animal care, meet & greets, foster care, and, of course, adoption. It takes a devoted village of volunteerism to thrive and SA Greys will.
