SB LB and BB

In the Site-Based program, you meet with an elementary or middle school student once per week at their school. During this time, you can spend up to 30 minutes helping with school work and the remaining time can be filled with recreational activities such as eating lunch with your Little, making crafts together or playing board games.

Volunteering is not required during winter, spring, or summer breaks so this program is often a great choice for undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • Commitment of 12 months from the time you are matched
  • One hour per week; same time, same day each week for a total of 4 hours per month (must be available during school hours)

Help change the life of a child in just 2 days over the course of 1 year! That's only a commitment of 4 hours per month!

Mission Statement

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Description

BBBSCFL has one core mission: provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Independent studies have clearly shown that mentoring is an effective preventative service that improves childrenâ s lives by increasing self-confidence, decision-making skills, school attendance, and academic success. Mentoring is also proven to decrease levels of truancy, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and school drop-out rates. By partnering with local corporations, businesses, and schools, BBBSCFL is able to recruit, screen, and train adult volunteers to serve as mentors to children throughout Central Florida. BBBSCFL runs two distinct mentoring programs: 1) site-based mentoring, 2) community-based mentoring.
