The Nashville Adult Literacy Council (NALC) is a nonprofit organization that teaches reading to U.S.-born adults and English skills to adult immigrants.
The Start Now Program allows learners on NALC’s waiting list to schedule hour-long appointments for immediate instruction while waiting for a one-on-one tutor. Volunteer tutors work with learners from both the Basic Literacy and English Language Learning programs.
You can sign up at least a week in advance for one-hour tutoring appointments as often or as little as your schedule permits. NALC staff creates the lesson plans.
Required training is offered one evening a month from 5:30 until 8 p.m.
Initial interview and orientation for this opportunity take place at FiftyForward RSVP, 174 Rains Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.
